(en) Dealing with phishing mails

Phishing poses many dangerous threats: identity theft, personal data sales, and money theft are just a few. Attackers attempt to obtain private data for this purpose via phishing emails. But there are also ways to protect yourself from these threats.

In this post, we give tips on how to act when a phishing email ends up in the mailbox:

  • Never click on links in suspicious mails. Instead, a new browser window should be opened and the URL of the supposed sender entered manually
  • Never disclose personal data such as passwords or credit card details via email
  • Attachments from dubious mails should not be opened or downloaded, as malware can end up on your own laptop or smartphone.
  • Spam emails should never be answered
  • The best way to contact a company is to discover a phishing campaign
  • The sender of the mail should be placed on the spam list and the mail should then be deleted

It is also important to be able to recognize phishing emails. Use this quiz to test whether you can differentiate between real and fake mail: https://phishingquiz.withgoogle.com/
