(en) Switch browser to Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge is the successor of the well-known Internet Explorer.
The browser is based on "Chromium" like Google Chrome and is therefore very similar to Google Chrome.

(Edge and Edge business - if logged on with a business account)

Edge has a big advantage, you can log in to the browser and is for all sites that use the Microsoft login of the university.
This also eliminates the multifactor authentication (MFA) in many cases. The browser behaves similar to Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Teams.

This can also be partially implemented for Google Chrome or Microsoft Firefox using addons, Edge can do this out-of-the-box.

A few tips for moving to Microsoft Edge:

Logging in the university account in Edge:

The registration happens by clicking on the (default) profile picture and by selecting a new account and logging in.

Set Edge as default browser:

Open the settings of Windows and search for "default"

There, "Microsoft Edge" can be set as the web browser, which will then be used automatically.

Import favorites, settings, passwords:

Either Edge offers the import automatically (1) or it can be triggered via the three dots in the upper right corner and "Settings".

Settings - Profiles - Import browser data

The settings/favourites/passwords of all browsers can be imported here, or it is also possible to select what is to be imported.

Customise start page

Edge has a very cluttered interface by default, this can be adjusted via the wheel (2):

Most of the contents can be switched off or adjusted there:

Use Google Search as default search

Automatically, Edge uses Microsoft Bing as the search service it a word/phrase is entered in the URL/Search bar.
If a different search service is desired, you can change it in the settings (3 dots at the top right):

"Privacy, Search and Services" and select "Address bar and search".

There, at the very bottom of the page, the desired search service can be set:

Use Google as search service in a new tab

A new tab is opened in Edge, a search field is displayed running a search with the Bing service.

This can only be changed by a browser extension:
