1. General

The WLAN of the University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten is available to you area-wide on the ground floor as well as on all other floors. You can use it to access your drives (data and homes) as well as certain printers / copiers in the University of Applied Sciences.
Furthermore, certain internet services are available via WLAN.
Please follow the installation instructions below and contact the IT and Infrastructure Service, if you are unsuccessful.
The following settings are always set automatically. If there are any problems, they should be selected manually:

  • Connection via EAP
  • AES encryption (recommended) or TKIP (not recommended)
  • Windows Authentication must be disabled
  • 802.1x Authentication

2. Different WLANs

  • The WLAN "CAMPUS_STP_WLAN" is meant for the use by students and teaching.
  • Altough "CAMPUS_STP_WLAN" is working for all Campus members, we recommend using
the international "Eduroam" network for most cases. Other than "CAMPUS_STP_WLAN" you have to use your full username (username@fhstp.ac.at).
  • The WLAN network "CAMPUS_STP_GAST" is only for external guests and does only work after a particular process. This network is EXTREMELY INSECURE and must not be used with the username and password of the University of Applied Sciences!

3. Network Addresses and Permitted Services

If you are signed up to the network correctly, you will get an IP-address, which is similar to:
10.2.XXX.XXX.

Permitted internet services:

  • Internet surfing (http, https, FTP download)
  • Mail correspondence (POP3, POP3s, IMAP4, IMAP4s, SMTP)
  • IPSEC-VPN, Open-VPN, Cisco-VPN

4. Windows 10

The configuration with Windows 10 is pretty simple. At first, the WLAN settings must be opened: Enter the word "settings" in the search field in order to open the settings app.

Now select the option "Network & Internet":

Klick on the rider "Wi-Fi" on the left. Make sure that Wi-Fi is turned on. Then select "Show available networks" and a list of available networks will appear. Choose the correct connection and klick "Connect". Windows will take on the authentication:

ATTENTION: Please notice that the connection "CAMPUS_STP_GAST" should not be used with your login data of the University of Applied Sciences for safety reasons.

5. Windows 10 after a Password Change

ATTENTION: If you changed your University of Applied Sciences password, the automatic WLAN connection does not work anymore. The saved connection must be deleted and newly created.
For this purpose, select the option "Manage known networks" in the WLAN settings (see point 4).

Select the network that should be deleted and klick "Forget".

Now the connection has to be reconnected (see point 4).

6. Linux - Ubuntu

With Linux the wpasupplicant can, of course, also be set up manually via Console.
This guide uses the Network Manager of a Gnome Ubuntu 9.04 desktop. KDE uses a similar mechanism – Kubuntu uses the same Network Manager.

In the central overview of the Network Manager, click on the "Add" button to set up a new WLAN.

(Note: Screenshot not current - SSID is "CAMPUS_STP_WLAN")

Name should be "CAMPUS_STP_WLAN", the SSID name MUST BE "CAMPUS_STP_WLAN".

For security settings, select "WPA2 & WPA2 Enterprise" and "Protected EAP (Peap)" as legitimation.
Use the username and password of the University of Applied Sciences.

7. Apple Macintosh Configuration

ATTENTION – this configuration was conducted on OS X 10.12 (Sierra). Configurations on higher versions are very similar.
For the configuration WLAN must be activated.

Open "System Settings" and then select "Network".

Select "More Options…".

Klick on "+" in order to add a new WLAN.

(Note: Screenshot not current - Name is "CAMPUS_STP_WLAN")

Enter the network name exactly like this: "CAMPUS_STP_WLAN". For Security choose "Firmenweiter WPA2".

An opportunity to enter username and password will appear afterwards. Here you have to enter the username and password of the University of Applied Sciences. Confirm with "OK".
