Remote Desktop with Microsoft Windows
Access to the remote desktop servers at the cCampus St. Pölten from outside is routed via a gateway server.
This concerns the connections to
- winremote (winremote.fhstp.ac.at) - Homeoffice for employees
- comos (comos.fhstp.ac.at) - Studentprojects
This allows access to the servers even from companies/networks which normally block this and also allows
multi-factor authentication (MFA) - an additional security layer that is highly recommended.
(CAVEAT: Remote desktop connections in combination with MFA are only working if MFA is used per Microsoft AuthenticatorApp authentication or
Telephone-call. Text messages and hardwarekeys are not working with remote desktop)
The settings are automatically distributed to clients managed by the IT department.
PRIVATE DEVICES: For these you have to configure the gateway manually. You find the configuration options on the
screenshots "Optional: Save credentials" below.
- Please use winremote.fhstp.ac.at (or comos.fhstp.ac.at) everytime
- The long username must always be used as the username: username@fhstp.ac.at.
- When logging in, the system asks twice for the user data - once the RDP gateway (incl. MFA, if activated), once the target server.
OPTIONAL: Save credentials/private devices
Optionally this could be changed by selecting
- selecting "Show Options"
- then click the "Advanced" tab & "Settings"
- and select "Use my RD Gateway credentials for the remote computer"
- Finally confirm with "ok
After that, you will only be asked once for the user data.
(The configuration data displayed on the screenshots above are also needed for clients not managed by the IT department)
Remotedeskto with Apple IOS
Use the app "Microsoft Remote Desktop" to establish Remote Desktop Connections to the university.
Add a new profile to connect to the server winremote.fhstp.ac.at and add a new
gateway.
Enter the gateway address rdgw.fhstp.ac.at.
Optionally you can save your credentials by adding an user account. Otherwise you would
be asked twice for your credentials.
